Alisagar Deer Park, Nizamabad
Alisagar
Deer Park is located in Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh. The Alisagar was
constructed in 1931 by the Nizam. Flanked by natural hillocks and lovely
flower gardens, the lake and its surroundings are rich in scenic beauty.
Near the reservoir is situated the Alisagar Deer Park, which was established in 1985. The park hosts many deer species. This is a good picnic spot for tourists.
From Nizamabad there are regular buses to Alisagar.

Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary
Situated 20 Kms from Kakinada and 70 Kms from Rajahmundry, this sanctuary is a
part of river Godavari and has a rich growth of Mangrove plantation. A unique
feature of this sanctuary is that it's located on the back waters of the sea.
Otter, a protected specie is found here. Among other animals which include
Fishing Cat, Jackal, Sea Turtle and Estuarine Crocodile which are found in the
creeks. The common birds found are Snipes, Ducks, ,Sea Gulls and Flamingos.
Best season to visit is from October to May.

Eturnagaram Sanctuary, Eturnagaram
Eturnagaram
Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the oldest sanctuaries of Andhra Pradesh. It is
spread at a distance of 806 sq.km in Warangal district. It is located at a
distance of 90 km. from Warangal and 250 km. from Hyderabad.
The forest includes southern tropical dry deciduous type of teak and its
associates like Thiruman, Maddi, Bamboo etc., while the fauna includes several
endangered animals like Tiger, Sloth Bear, Four Horned Antelope, Chinkara,

Gundla Brahmeswara Sanctuary, Nandyal
Gundla Brahmeswaram Sanctuary lies between Kurnool and Prakasam districts,
spread over 1194 sq.km at a distance of 30 Km. from Nandyal. This sanctuary
has mixed deciduous forests of Teak, Prerocarpuss, Terminalia, Albizzia,
Anogeissius, Dalbergia, Boswelia, Shisham, Andug & Bamboo.
It is situated on Gundla Brahmeshwaram plateau running south north of the Nallamallai hill range, with cuts and broken hill ranges, valleys and plateau's. A perennial river by name 'Gundlakamma', crosses through the sanctuary. The sanctuary presents a varied habitat for wild life.
Tiger, Panther, Sloth bear, Wild dog, Hyena, Jungle cat, Langur, Bonnet
monkey, Pangolin, Sambar, Nilgai, Chowsinga, Chinkara, Mouse deer, Monitor
lizard, Python and Marsh crocodile are found here.

Indira Gandhi Zoological park, Visakhapatnam
The
park covers an area of 625 acres. It is presently one of the largest zoo
located in the natural settings of a reserve forest about 4 km. from the
Visakhapatnam railway station on the National Highway at Mathurawada.
Nearly eighty species of animals numbering to about eight hundred are present in the zoo.
The Zoo Park has different sections for primates, carnivores, lesser carnivores, small mammals, reptiles, ungulates, and birds.
Primates This section houses various species of monkeys - the common Langur, Rhesus monkey, Bonnet Monkey and other exotic fauna like Mandrills, Olive Baboons and Sacred Baboons.
Carnivores
This section has Panthers, Tigers, Lions, Pumas, Jaguars and lesser carnivores
like the Wolves, Jackals, Wild Dogs, Hyenas, etc.,
The Himalayan Black Bear and the Sloth Bear are housed in large moated enclosures.
The Hippopotamus is a special attraction at the zoo. The Crocodile Complex has all the three Indian Crocodile species.

Pied Horn Bills, Painted Storks, Peacocks, Ducks, Love Birds, Budgerigars and
Cockateels form the bird collection of the Zoo.

Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, Palamaneru
This
sanctuary is located 50 Km from Chittoor and 120 Km from Bangalore by Road. It covers an area of 358-sq-kms. The area is covered by southern
tropical thorn type of forests, consisting of flora Albiziaamara,
Ficusreligiosa, Ficustomentosa, Ficus Bengalensis and Bamboo.
The flora also consists of a species, which is a regeneration of 'santalum' album. The habitat of Kaundinya sanctuary is rugged with high hills and deep valleys. The Kaigal and Kaundinya are two streams, which flow through the sanctuary.
Tourists can find a wide variety of animals like Cheetal, Four horned Antelope, Sambhar, Mouse Deer, Hare, Porcupine, Wild boar, Jungle Cat, Jackal, Sloth Bear, Panther, Jungle Fowl, Peafowl's and Elephants.

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, Kinnerasanim
This
Wildlife Sanctuary lying on the Right Bank of the Godavari River forms a
part of the Dandakaranya forests in Khammam district. It is situated
12-km from Paloncha, Khammam District. It extends over an area of
635.4-sq-kms It derives its name from the river Kinnerasani, which
bisects the sanctuary and ultimately drains into the Godavari River.
The sanctuary represents dry deciduous mixed type forests with teak, bamboo and terminals. Other species found here are Maddi, Yepi, Yegissa, Sommi Thandra, Bandaru, Amla, Mango, Tendu. Main attractions of the sanctuary are the Deer Park, Kinnerasani Dam and Reservoir with Jaladrushyam Guest house. Many perennial springs known as "Togus" flow through this sanctuary along with Kinnerasani Rallavagu.
Animals
like Cheetal, Black Bucks, Chinkaras, Chousinghas, Sambhars, Wild Boars,
Gaurs, Wild Dog, Hyena, Jackals, Sloth Bear, Panthers, Tigers, and a variety

Kolleru Lake Bird Sanctuary, Kolleru
The
largest fresh water lake in Asia, Kolleru lake is a virtual paradise for
nature lovers. Rich in flora and fauna, it attracts migratory birds from
Australia, Siberia, Egypt and Philippines between the months of October
and March. During this season, the lake is visited by an estimated
2,00,000 birds, which include Open Bill Storks, Painted Storks, Glossy
Ibises, White Ibises, Teals, Pintails, Shovellers, Red-Crested Pochards,
Blackwinged Stilts, Avocets, Common Redshanks, Wigeons, Gadwalls and
Cormorants, among Others.
It is known the world over for the famous Kolleru Bird Sanctuary. This 673
sq.Kms wet land marsh habitat supports a large veriety of Water birds
which include Garganys,ducks,Open bill storks, Herons, Flamingos & grey
pelicans.

Mahaveer Harina Vanasthali National Park, Hyderabad
The park is located at Vanasthalipuram, at a distance of 20 km from the city and originally the area was under the Nizam. The park was established in 1977.
The flora is of dry scrub jungle with grass lands. Major plant species found here are Neem, Butea (Flame of the forest), Acacias, Bauhinias etc. apart from a variety of thorny scrub species.
The park is famous for the endangered Black Buck, the state animal of Andhra Pradesh.
The other species of animals commonly seen are Monitor Lizards, Mongooses, Porcupines and Hares besides a variety of Snakes.
The avian fauna of the park comprises over 100 species and includes Partridges, Quails, Peacocks, Doves and birds of prey like Kites, Vultures etc. A variety of migratory birds can also be seen round the year. Short-toed Eagle is another rare species nesting in this area.
This
center offers audio-visual education on nature and wildlife and is supported
by a good nature library. An exhibition hall displaying exhibits explaining
intricate problems of wildlife conservation.

There are sheds for rest and observation towers for viewing the animals. A van
is provided to take the visitors inside the park to see the animals from close
quarters.

Manjira Wildlife & Bird Sanctuary, Sangareddy
Manjira
Bird Sanctuary is located near Sangareddy in Medak district spreading over
20 sq.km.
Nestling between Manjeera and Singur barrages, the Manjira wild life
sanctuary comprises of nine small islands which are home to a number of
resident and migratory birds in addition to Marsh Crocodiles and Muggers.
One can notice an extensive growth of Babul Prosopis. Plants commonly found in water are Pistia, Hydrilla, Eichornia and Vallisneria. Fishes of various species like Catla, Rahu, Murrel, Ech Paten, Karugu, Chidwa and reptiles like Monitor Lizards, Fresh Water Turtles, Cobra and Marsh Crocodiles can be seen here. Different species of birds found here are Painted Storks, Herons, Coots, Teals, Cormorants, Pochards, Black and White Ibises, Spoon Bills, and Open Billed Storks etc.
An Environmental Education Centre with a museum, a library, and an
auditorium is located here. It helps in educating the visitors about nature
conservation and maintenance of ecological balance. Boats are in operation to

park covers an area of 700 acres and is located at a distance of 25 km. from
Hyderabad.
The flora of the park is of tropical dry deciduous forest of degraded nature.
The park harbors over 600 plant species ranging from bryophytes, Pteridophytes,
Herbs, Shrubs, Climbers and Trees. The vegetative cover presents a mosaic of
woodland and grasslands. Prominent trees are Teak, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Neem,
Bamboo, etc.

Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad
Spanning
300 lush green acres, the Nehru Zoological Park is a must for nature lovers.
The biggest Zoo in India, it has over 250 species of animals and birds, most
of which are kept in conditions as close to their natural habitats as
possible. This is the first zoo to create moated enclosures for animals. The
Lion Safari Park, Natural History Museum and Children's Train are the added
attractions.
The Nehru Zoological Park which was declared open to the public on 6th October 1963 has bred some notable exotic and indigenous animals and birds like the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Tiger, Panther, Giraffe and Gaur etc., a number of Deer and Antelopes. In fact, animals bred in the Zoo have been distributed to various Deer parks and also sanctuaries for restoring the depleted animals.
The chimpanzee from Central Africa with a large open enclosure leads the group, followed by the colourful Mandrill, Orangutan, Sacred, Chacma, Olive and yellow Baboons (in open islands) Moustache and Sykes Guneon, Diana, Mona, DeBrazza, Vervet and Manga Monkeys all from Africa. South America is represented by Squirrel monkeys and Capuchin. Indian primates include the Rhesus, Bonnet, Stumptailed, Liontailed and Pig tailed monkeys Capped Nilgiri, Golden and Common Langurs.
The
lions, both African and Indian are exhibited in this Zoo. It is a treat for
the visitors to visit the only safari park for Indian Lions in Asia, with
almost natural forest setting. The Tigers both white and normal have their own
forest glades. The Panthers (normal&black) are exhibited in large enclosures
with rock cliffs. Others include the Wolves, Jackals, Foxes and Hyena. The
Weasel group is represented by Ratel and others.
The Bear, are represented by a group of Sloth-bears, Himalayan black bear in large moated enclosures.
Leading the group are the herd of Indian Elephants in a large grassy open enclosure, closely followed by the rare Great Indian Rhinoceros. Matching these are the group of Hippopotamus from Africa standing proud with their young ones. The zebras and the American Bison occupy a place of honour in the Zoo with their Indian neighbours, the Gaur and the rare Indian wild Asses.
The exclusively Indian Antelopes. Nilgai Black Buck, Chousingha and Chinkara have large spacious open enclosures. The Deer group includes the large Sambar and the beautiful Cheetal (Spotted Deer), the Barking Deer and Mouse Deer.
The pride possession among the deer is the group of Manipur or Brow Antler Deer which are almost extinct in the wild. The rodents are represented by the colourful Malabar Giant Squirrels, Malayan squirrels, Porcupines, Rabbits, Guinea pigs etc. The Zoo is successful in breeding all varieties of deer and are proud to revive and rehabilitate most of them in the wild.

Nelapattu Bird Sancturay, Sullurpeta
A
must-visit for all bird lovers, this world-renowned sanctuary on the banks of
Pulicat lake, is spread over 486 sq.km. Here you can sopt the famous Siberian
Cranes and nearly 160 species of birds from as far away as the USA, China,
Antarctica among others.
It is the breeding gound for rare and endangered species like Grey Pelicans, Open-Billed Storks, Little Cormorants, Spoon Bills, White Ibises and Night Herons. Egrets, Terns and Ducks also find it an ideal roosting place.
The reserve forest area is home to animals like Jackals, Slender Loris and Spotted Deer as well as reptiles such as snakes, tortoieses and monitor lizards.

and an auditorium with audiovisual equipemtn, serve as a means of information
and interpretation.

An annual Flamingo festival is held every year in February. Seminar on

Pakhal Wild life Sanctuary, Pakhal
Pakhal
Wildlife Sanctuary is located 50 Km from Warangal, along the shoreline of
Pakhal Lake and is named after it. It is a manmade lake, excavated in 1213 AD
by the Kakatiyas. The sanctuary is spread over 880 sq.km consisting of a large
plateau surrounded by low hills. The environment and the Pakhal Lake form the
core area of the sanctuary. The vegetation consists of tropical dry deciduous
mixed forests, bamboo and mixed teak forests.
Its natural scenic beauty and landscape is extremely beautiful and captivating, which makes this place worth visiting. This sanctuary is home to Spotted Dear, Sambhar, Nilghai, Wild Boar, Guar, Python, Wild Dogs, Foxes, Jackals, Hyena, Sloth Bear, Panther, Tiger, Ducks, Teals, Cormorant, Spoon Bills, and Storks etc. It has wide variety of jungle birds and several water birds that spend the winter here.

Papikonda Wild Life Sanctuary, Papikonda
Papikonda wildlife sanctuary is spread in three districts, Viz: Khammam, East
Godavari and West Godavari. It is 50-km from Rajahmundry and extends over 591
sq km. It lies on the left and right banks of the river Godavari and cuts
through the Papikonda hill range of Eastern Ghats.
Varied and multifarious streams emanating from covers of the hill make the Papikonda forest vegetation luxuriant. All these constitute to make the area into a typical ecological, facinal and geomorphological zone.
The
different species of flora found here are Tectona Grandis, Terminalias,
Tomentosa, Lagerstroemia Lanceolata, Latifolia, Albizzia Amara, Albizzia
Lebbeck. Dendrocalamus Strictus Bambusa Arundinacea.
The habitat is suited for Tigers, Gaurs, Panther and other animals like
Spotted Deer, Four Horned Antelope, Sambar, Hyena, Jackals, Sloth Bear,
Muggers. The presence of Gharials was also reported. A variety of both
resident and migratory birds are found along the river Godavari and its
tributaries.
Other Attractions :
A hill reserve forest called Rekapalle in Khammam district, which is situated
in this sanctuary, is reported to be 'Kishkindha', the ape kingdom of Ramayana
times. Visiting this place leaves an unforgettable impression on the minds of

Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarjunasagar
The thick, verdant forests on the banks of the Krishna river between Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam, are home to a host of wild animals. The
