Kerela has a 600 km long shoreline dotted with some of the finest, most charming Beaches of the world, coconut groves, natural harbors, lagoons and sheltered coves. All of it as peaceful as the rest of the land, washed by the pleasant tropical sun and as pristine as ever.
Alappuzha Beach
This is one of the most popular picnic spots in alappuzha. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is about 140 years old.
How to Reach:
Alappuzha is accessible by all the means of communication.
The airport nearest to Alappuzha is Kochi at a distance of 64 km north. The
Trivandrum airport is located 159 km south of Alappuzha. Cities like Cochin,
Chennai, Howrah, Bangalore and Bokaro are well connected to Alappuzha.
National Highway 47 goes through Alappuzha connecting it with almost all the
nearby places of South India.
Alappuzha is also well connected through waterways. Alappuzha is linked by
boat and ferry services through the scenic backwaters to Cochin, Kottayam,
Kevalam, Changanassery and Chengannur
Cherai Beach
This lovely beach bordering Vypeen island is ideal for
swimming. Dolphins are occassionally seen here.
It is 45 kms.far from Ernakulam city. This lovely beach bordering Vypeen

typical kerala village with paddy fields and coconut groves is an added
attraction.

Fort Kochi Beach
The town was shaped by the Portuguese, the Dutch and
later the British.
Fort Kochi Beach is just 12 km away from Kochi city. An obscure fishing
village that became the first European township in India , Kochi has an
eventful and colorful history. The town was shaped by the Portuguese,
the Dutch and later the British.

Shanghumugham Beach
This is a favourite haunt of sunset viewers. The beach is
adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram airport and Veli Tourist Village.
Padinharekara Beach
At the end of the Tipu Sultan Road near
Ponnani, the beach offers a breathtaking view of the confluence of the
Bharathapuzha, the Tirur puzha and the Arabian sea.
Best Time
Through out the year. Especially this place is noted for migratory
birds, gathering in thousands during February-April.
How to Padinharekara Beach

Vallikunnu Beach
A beach resort set in the middle of a coconut
grove is the main attraction here. The Kadalundi Bird sanctuary is just
a short distance away.

How to Reach Allikunnu Beach:
The Calicut airport is at Karipur, 26 Kms away from Malappuram and 28 Kms
away from Kozhikode . Regular flights to Bombay , Coimbatore , and Madras
are operated. Also international flights to Sharjah, Dubai , Abudhabi,
Muscat , Kuwait are operated almost everyday. Air India flight to Bombay is
a connection to many international flights.
There are two Railway lines, Mangalore-Shornur and Nilambur-Shornur passing
through the district. The first is through the coastal belt. Parappanangadi,
Tirur, Tirunavaya and Kuttipuram are in this line. KSRTC bus stations are at
Ponnani, Malappuram and Perintalmanna. But major part of road transportation
is handled by private sector. The National Highway 17 is the major road
passing through the district. It connects Calicut University , Kottakal,
Valanchery, Kuttipuram and Ponnani. Kozhikode-Nilambur-Gudalloor and
Kozhikode-Palakkad are state highways. Other parts of the district are
connected by district roads and rural roads.
Varkala Beach
Vakala is a seaside resort and spa, as well as an
important Hindu centre of pilgrimage. High cliffs with rich mineral
springs rise majestically from the coastline. The 2000 year old Sree
Janardhana Swamy Temple and the Nature Care Centre are the two main
attractions.
How to Reach Varkala:
The tourist destination of Varkala can be reached from Thiruvananthapuram,
the capital of Kerala. Varkala is about an hour's drive from
Thiruvananthapuram.
The nearest airport is the Thiruvananthapuram International airport, which
is about 46 km from Varkala.
The Varkala railway station links the tourist destination of Varkala with
other places like Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.
Beypore Beach
Located at the mouth of the Chaliyar river, Beypore one
of the prominent ports and fishing harbours of ancient Kerala was an
important trade and maritime centre.

Kovalam beach
This internationally renowned beach resort of Kerala has been a favorite haunt of tourists since the 1930s. Kovalam
consists of three adjacent crescent beaches. The southernmost , known as
the Lighthouse beach, is the most popular, Kovalam offers accommodation
options to suit all the budgets.

Kappad Beach
This is the historic beach where Vasco da Gama landed on the 27th of May, 1498 with 170 men in three vessels. The rock studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu. An interesting feature of the landscape is the sprawing rock that protrudes into the sea. The temple on the rock is believed to be 800 years old.
Located 16 km from Kozhikode town, Kappad beach
is a pleasant stretch of rock studded beach is Kappakkadavu. To the
tourist it is one of the most charming of Kerala's beaches.
Bekal Beach
14 km away from Kasargode,the Bekal Fort is located,it is the best
preserved fort in Kerala. The seashore fort along with its premise is
being designed into a major tourist resort. The fort, in its domineering
position on a promontory, offers a panoramic view of palm-fringed
beaches on both flanks. Shrubby hill slopes down from the fort to rugged
rocks before engaging itself with the frothy sea. A sauntering inside
the fort would transport to the battle days when rival forces fought for
wresting the fort, then a vantage position on Western coast.
Bekal Beach of Kerala offers mesmerizing views of the swaying palms.
Located just 14 km away from Kasargode in Kerala Bekal Beach is worth
visiting. The roaring waves take over the tourists at the Bekal beach.
The Bekal fort in the vicinity offers a great view of the beach. The
blue of the beach and the greenery all round presents an unforgettable
view.
Ezhimala Beach
The beautiful and favorite beach has a hillock nearby
(286 m high). Carved stone pillars and an ancient burial chamber can be
seen at the foot of the hills. The hills are noted for rare medicinal
herbs. It can be referred as the hottest tourists spot in all keralian
beaches.

One can reach there by bus. Local bus service is also there for giving
excellent transportation.
Kappil Beach
Kappil Beach is better known as Remote and secluded,
this beach is fast becoming a major tourist attraction. The kodi cliff
nearby offers a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea . Here you can have a
gist of the typical Kerala village life. The homely atmosphere will give
you a better pleasure and one will feel like homely comfort.
Thangaserri Beach
5 kms far from kollam town is the Thangasseri Beach ;
this seaside village of historic importance has the ruins of an Old
Portuguese fort and churches built in the 18 th century. The thangasseri
lighthouse is open to visitors from 15:30 - 17:30 hrs.

Kizhuna Ezhara Beach
This attractive beach is located at about 11 kms from

Thrirrumullavaram Beach
6km north of Kollam, Thirumullavaram is a beautiful
beach that's well linked by road and with good facilities. This
beautiful beach filled with coconut palms is ideal for an early morning
walk as one can see fishermen gliding into the sea for the days catch.
Best Time to visit:
From December till March.

Kumarakom Houseboat
Kumarakom lies on the shore of enchanting lake
Vembanad lake, and is 14 kms from Kottayam. A boat ride give you a
pastoral experience of life. You can see Fishermen searching for fish,
ducks waddling down to the water.
At Kumarakom you can rent the houseboat and can experience the furnished
houseboats with living room, bedroom and bath, with a raised central
platform creating a private sit-out for the passengers.
Sections of the curved roof of wood or plaited palm open out to provide
shade and allow uninterrupted views. Boat trains - formed by joining two
or more houseboats together - make for a convenient mode of sightseeing
when the company is large.
