Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum, is the capital city of the state of Kerala. The city has derived its name from "Anantha", the thousand-headed serpent of Hindu mythology, which means the "City of the Sacred Snake". Thiruvananthapuram is built over the seven hills. It was once the part of the erstwhile Travancore kingdom whose capital was at Padmanabhapuram, which is now a part of Tamil Nadu.

Shri Padhmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the most sacred shrines of Kerala. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is within a large complex with a stately gopuram. The temple is provided with a tank within the temple complex for ritual bathing.
