North India includes Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi. Delhi
is the capital of the country. It is an ideal place for the
history and archeological buffs because it is a vast riot which
yokes the relics of the past centuries. The Qutub Minar of 12th
century is an archeological gem. Other monuments are the
Humayun's Tomb, the shrine of Sufi Saint Nizamuddin, Red Fort,
Jama Masjid etc. Worth seeing are the places like Central
Secretariat, India Gate and Parliament House. It is Delhi and
its surroundings areas that "Urdu", a variety of Hindi
language developed.
Kashmir is another destination which is enthusiastically adored
by the tourist community. A medieval Persian poet wrote an ode
to Kashmir describing it as Paradise of Earth. Its scenic beauty
is said to be a juxtaposition of the Alps and Venice in Europe.
Other states in Himalayan region are Himachal Pradesh and
Uttaranchal, also famous for their own characteristic beauty.
Shimla is a famous holiday resort and attractive hill station of
colonial era. Rishikesh, the capital of Uttaranchal is the Yoga
Capital of India. The experience of seeing the Golden Temple in
Amritsar is surreal. |
